Places of Wonder
Cyprus Department of Antiquities
Cyprus is the third largest island of the Mediterranean Sea, and the only island in the Levantine basin, situated at the crossroads between three continents, at a point where the Orient meets the Occident. The island’s strategic position allowed for the development of a very unique Cypriot culture which evolved through time, from the 10th century BC when it was first inhabited. Having been under the control or influence of Kings, Pharaohs, Emperors, Crusaders, Sultans and many more, Cyprus boasts a rich and diverse archaeological heritage. Cypriot antiquities grace museums in Cyprus and all over the world. Others are anchored on the land where they were brought into being, as archaeological sites of international importance.
In autumn 2018 I was commissioned by the Department of Antiquities of the Republic of Cyprus to document some of these amazing places. Below is a selection of these images.
This project has been awarded the following distinctions:
2019 International Photography Awards : Honorable Mention in Professional Architecture, Historic - Places of wonder
2019 ND Awards : Honorable Mention in Professional Architecture, Other - Places of wonder
