'Redsoil', my most recent personal endeavour, can be described as a series that communicates the issue of illegal killing of migratory birds in Cyprus by engaging in a post-mortem inquiry into the story of these birds’ unfortunate ending. Recently printed as a dummy book by OWK press, and while we are still in the process of securing some funding for its future publication and/or evolution, this series has already welcomed positive attention and recognition.
Firstly, being my MA thesis, 'Redsoil' granted me a place as a University of the Arts London alumni and a distinction in LCC's MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. The dummy book was also selected by the International Association of Photography and Theory Photobook 2018 Exhibition, featuring the theme of Photographies and Conflict: Archiving and Consuming Images of Strife. To be featured alongside such amazing local and international talent, including my former professor, Lewis Bush, has been a true honour for me (shout-out to my fellow islanders Nicolas Iordanou and Emma Louise Charalambous).
'Redsoil' has also recently been the recipient of an Honourable Mention from the International Photography Awards 2018 in the Professional Fine Art, Still Life category. It was selected by editors to be featured in the LensCulture Art Photography Awards 2018 Competition Gallery. The project also received an Honourable Mention in the Editorial: Environmental Category from the 2018 Neutral Density Photography Awards.
I think I may go as far to say, let's keep an eye on this project...
