Cycle to Discover

Reimagining an Island on Two Wheels

Back in 2017–2018, I set out with cyclists Nicodemos Protopapas and Michalis Karatzis to see Cyprus differently, not from behind a car window or through the lens of mass tourism, but from the slow, deliberate rhythm of a bicycle. The project was both a visual exploration and a statement: that tourism and adventure can be positive, grounded, and deeply connected to the land. We crossed the island’s countryside through the seasons, focusing on the raw, often-overlooked beauty of Cyprus’s landscapes. My role was to translate these journeys into imagery that could inspire others to step outside, discover their own backyard, and embrace a more sustainable way of experiencing place. Looking back at this series now is interesting, I see the early steps of my inner search for a Cyprus I could see but also fantasise about. It’s not that this version of Cyprus didn’t exist at all, but it wasn’t the norm. That ‘fire’ of wanting to reveal.
