Pafos Forest – The Silence I Long For
2023—ongoing
Pafos Forest is Cyprus’s largest forest, its most expansive protected area, and Europe’s southeastern most large forest. Yet, despite its ecological and cultural significance, it remains absent from public consciousness, a place people pass through but rarely stop to see. It is one of the last places on the island where you can feel truly lost, not in disorientation, but in a way that frees you from everything else.
This project is a return to stillness. A search for silence, not an emptiness, but the kind that holds presence. The kind you find
in the rustling of leaves, in the weight of mist over the ridges, in the slow shift of light on the forest floor.
Visually, the work is meditative. I return to my landscape roots, using photography as a way of listening rather than merely looking. The images shift between vastness and intimacy, close-up textures and sweeping vistas, details and expanses, capturing the quiet richness of a place we’ve overlooked for too long.
